Indoor Training: Impact & Beyond

From Justin Parsons On April 04, 2023
In Part 5 of his five-part indoor golf training series, Titleist staff member Justin Parsons shows how you can use a mirror to improve the most important phase of the golf swing – impact.

From a physics standpoint, impact, the instant when the club face collides with the golf ball, is the only moment that truly matters in golf. You can have the most unorthodox swing in the world, but if you can get the club square at impact, striking the turf under the ball and traveling roughly
... towards your target, a good shot will result. But, as Justin teaches, it's all about improving your odds. Yes, you can hit occasional great shots with a flawed swing. But as your fundamentals improve, you'll hit many more great shots, more consistently and with far less effort.

By using a mirror to learn what a solid impact position feels like, you can almost reverse-engineer your swing, ingraining the motion and feel that will allow you to swing efficiently and return the club to that sound impact position. You can also use this reference point as Justin does, to train your move through impact and up into a full, balanced finish position. Practice from good impact back, into your backswing and through, from good impact into your finish and see how this smart drill translates into more solid ball-striking when you hit the course!
